Background
Sean received his first guitar for his 5th birthday. After seeing that being good at the guitar could bring him everything he ever dreamed of (money, pretty girls, explosions), he quickly decided that very little else was worth his time. He went on to study with several notable teachers of jazz, classical, and flamenco guitar and eventually majored in music performance in college. But, the professors kept getting mad at him for sneaking the riff to "Smoke on the Water" into the jazz standards at performances, so he turned his attention to global studies, for which he earned a degree from the University of Washington. As a performer, Sean has worked with everything from rock groups (fun) to symphonies (less fun), and has recorded in a wide variety of situations as both a featured artist and as session guitarist. As a teacher, Sean has a progressive approach that integrates theory and technique into the lessons in a practical way. Sean is often quoted by his students as saying, "If you don't practice more, monsters will come out of your closet and get you." Sean began teaching guitar in 1991, and has taught in the USA and Europe, conducting lessons in English, Italian, Spanish, and even Pig Latin on occasion.
